Important Update: OEC has enhanced CollisionLink's VIN scrubbing to accommodate supersession parts! This means that parts that were shown as invalid (
) or not found (
) on previous transactions may now display as valid (
) or possible fit (
) for a vehicle. This will eliminate the need to manually check invalid or unavailable parts against supersession data, improving the speed and accuracy of parts orders. (Click here to learn more about how CollisionLink handles VIN scrubbing for supersession parts.)
OEC's VIN scrubbing validates part numbers to ensure the specified parts are appropriate for that vehicle’s make, model, and year. This provides faster turnaround times with repairs and reduced parts-return percentages. VIN scrubbing is only available for and select OEMs. (Learn more about what OEMs provide this feature.)
When an OE part number is scrubbed against a VIN, one of the following icons may display in the Valid column of the Upsell Parts or OE Parts section to indicate whether the part is valid for the vehicle:
Notes:
- The body shop must provide the VIN in the CollisionLink transaction for scrubbing to be applied.
- If VIN scrubbing is applied, CollisionLink will provide a description of the part from OEM Part Catalog Information. If not, the part description from the body shop's estimate data will be used.

The part number is valid for the year, make, model series, and/or option codes of the vehicle. |

The part number is valid for the year, make, and model; however, it cannot validate the model series and/or option codes of the vehicle. The estimate part number will be listed, along with the OE part number(s) found as a possible match. Depending on the section, click the OE Part # or Revised Part # to view other part numbers that may be a possible fit. To swap parts within the transaction, click the desired part from the list. Note: Not all parts will have multiple replacement options. |

The part number has not been found. In this case, the catalog cannot confirm the part is valid for the year, make, model, and/or option codes of the vehicle. |

Neither the part nor the part number have been found. |
Supersession Parts
CollisionLink now takes advantage of supersession data to ensure parts scrubbing results are more accurate. Within CollisionLink, supersession is defined as a part number that has been replaced by a newer part number by the manufacturer.
Example:
- For a 2012 vehicle, the part number for the hood in 2012 was E51110. CollisionLink will show this as a valid (
) part. - In 2018, part number E51110 was retired and superseded with part number E5111. Prior to this update, CollisionLink would identify this as an invalid (
) part.
Now, CollisionLink will automatically look at a part number's supersession chain during the part validation/scrubbing process to determine if the part is a valid replacement for the original part number and is the right part for that VIN. In the example above, part E51111 is a valid replacement (superseded) part to the original part number and the valid (
) icon will display.
