KB Article #3237
Use the Protected Parts functionality of Parts List Manager to create a list of parts that will never display on the D2DLink Locator. This can be used to ensure specific parts in your inventory--such as OEM program parts, special orders, or fast-moving items--are not available to other dealers. There is no limit on adding parts to a protected list.
Once a Protected Parts list is created, it will display on the Parts List Manager in orange for easy identification.
Notes:
- IMPORTANT: Parts added with a QOH = 0 will not be added to the protected list. If the same parts are in stock in the future, these parts will not be protected and will be shown in the Locate results.
- A protected part is not the same as a discount-excluded part. Protected parts will not display on the Locator. Discount-excluded parts will display on the Locator but will not be discounted. (Click here for more information on creating a Discount Excluded Parts list.)

You will need to:
Manual List
- If you have a pre-existing list of parts you wish to protect (either a TXT or CSV file), click Browse. Use the browser window to locate the file, click to select, and then click Open. The file will display in the Upload Parts List window. Note: If you attempt to upload a format other than TXT or CSV or the file is still open, an error message will display.
-or-
Use the Enter Parts List box to type the parts, separating each with a comma. - Click Apply this Criteria. (You do not need to use the Add Parts or Replace Parts buttons when creating a list.)
DMS Source
- Type the source ID(s) containing the parts you wish to protect in the provided field. Separate multiple IDs with a comma.
- Click Apply this Criteria.
Bin Location
- Type the Bin Location ID(s) containing the parts you wish to protect in the provided field. Separate multiple IDs with a comma.
- Click Apply this Criteria.
- Repeat Step 6 for any additional criteria that you need to apply to the parts list. Use the
button to remove any criteria you no longer need or click the
button to make changes to a criteria.
- Multiple criteria in a list are always treated as "and". This means the part must match all criteria added (ie DMS ID and Bin Location) to be a match. To display parts that match a single criterion (DMS ID or Bin Location) you will need to create separate lists/rules with a single/different criterion.
- Click OK.
- You will return to the parts list overview page and your newly created list will display at the top of the grid. All parts on the new list will no longer display on the Locator. Additionally, you will see one of the following messages at the bottom of the window:
- The green checkmark displays and will include information about the discount you applied to the list, the number of parts in the list, and a link to export the list.
- If the criteria used generates a list with zero parts, a warning message will display. If the newly created list should contain parts, you will need to edit the list criteria. (Click here for more information on editing a list.)
- Changes on Parts List Manger should reflect right away, but it may take several minutes for changes to reflect on the D2DLink Locator.
- The green checkmark displays and will include information about the discount you applied to the list, the number of parts in the list, and a link to export the list.
